Management review provides a holistic overview of the entire COR program, where senior management of an organization are provided with the opportunity to review the past performance of the COR program, and determine what needs to be revised to foster improvements that will result in accident prevention.

It is important to note that management review meetings must be documented. Prescribed actions are to be tracked by an action plan, monitored to closure, and evaluated for long-term effectiveness.

The COR audit tool checks to confirm that an organization undergoing audit has a functional Management Review program. A COR auditor will review the following key elements:

  1. A signed Management Review policy and program has been implemented and is maintained. This program needs to be reviewed periodically.

  2. The Company has clearly defined the procedures used to conduct, track, and record Management reviews.

  3. All COR and OH&S programs are covered by Management reviews and documented in the minutes of meetings.

  4. OH&S performance is used to identify the critical priorities required by the organization.

  5. Action plans are developed based upon Management reviews and are regularly communicated to workers.

  6. All OH&S objectives are clearly identified and communicated to workers in a timely manner.

Any organization that can provide positive responses to the above is in a good place, and likely on its way to building proactive safe work environment.
